You used to be nice, but now you're mean

Not a whole lot to post today. It was a very long and tiring day.

My cooperating teacher was again gone today, so as usual the students were AHHHH..

There were some "glad" moments today though. I'm having to focus on those. I was able to get one students who doesn't like to do anything write in is journal AND do his math journal. WAHHOOO!!!

I also was able to get the students to be quiet during a game today for math that I taught. WAHOOOO!!!! Two wahoos! I think that's pretty good today.

I'm trying so hard not to think of the negative. (So I won't share those with you. Let's just say there was a lot of talking, free time taken away.)

I want to know how some teachers do it. I want to know how they don't take away recess for punishment. I try to praise other students to get other students to behave. I don't want to take away recess. I give them warnings. I love to say, "I like how _____ has her reading book out and is doing what she's supposed to be doing." But for some reason some students don't care. They could careless to be praised. I NEED HELP!

Ok so back to positives! The students love to say things that just make me laugh. So here we go. A list of funny things that happened today:

1. I told the class that I had a secret to tell them, and one little girl said, "What? That you have a date with your boyfriend. She has a boyfriend did you know that." Ha

2. A boy that was in a class last year that I taught in went up to another teacher and said, "Miss Cameron was nice last year in Mrs. Crow's class, but this year.... She is mean." Wow

3. I asked a girl why she was rolling up her jeans and she proceeded to tell me, "Because I'm tryin' to be gansta." Ha

I love the funny things in life that they tell you. They are so willing to share anything. I love the tying of shoes every 5 min, and the Miss Cameron, Miss Cameron. It just makes me smile. I have to keep telling myself this is my ministry and there will be some good and bad days. God didn't mean for life to be easy! We must work to impact others on this earth for His kingdom!

This puzzle is janky

The weekend FLEW! Amy came down Friday and took Kate and me out to dinner. So Sweet! Then Saturday I layed around and worked on lesson plans for this week. Saturday night Amy came back and we hung out and played Apples to Apples (Best Game Ever!) Sunday I got up and went to church. It was a great message. Then that night watched the Emmy's (Loved the opening Glee number!)

Oh what a day! Let's just say it's Monday!

My cooperating teacher was not here today therefore I had a sub in the class plus myself. Well, what is the first thing that kids think when a subs there....PARTY!!!

Then they realized I was there.. OOPS! ha

Overall the day was descent. The students worked during work time and played during play time. They were just very talkative.

We started off the day with share time. There was one boy that shared today. He told us that his grandma was moving to Arkansas. One student asked him how big her house was, and he answered, "Bigger than the school." Ha. If only.

The students then wrote in their journals. One girl wrote, "Rainbows are pretty. They are made of rain and light." WOW!

After journal time we read the book Corduroy which I LOVE as well as the students!

The students went to Music and then lunch/recess.

After recess it was my time to shine. AHH. We finished up our book from story time called "My Father's Dragon" and then headed onto the 2nd book the in the Magic Treehouse series. They LOVED it! All the students were very attentive and quiet. (2 girls actually fell asleep)

After story time we went straight into math. We discussed what day of the week it was, what the date was, and what day of school it was (8th). I then had them sing their days of the week songs: (To the Tune of "The Adams Family")

"Days of the Week (snap, snap) Days of the Week (Snap, snap) Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week (snap, snap) There's Sunday and there's Monday, There's Tuesday and there's Wednesday, There's Thursday and there's Friday, and then there's Saturday. Days of the week (Snap, Snap) Days of the week (Snap, Snap) Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week!"

They love that song!

After this we jumped right into math. We were learning about comparing numbers. They played a game where they said whether 12 was bigger or smaller than 1 and the winner was the one with the bigger number. We played this game for about 15 min. It was fun!

Then we came together and played another game called "Monster Mash." I was thinking of a number that was greater than 5 but smaller than 10. They then would guess. We would move blue covers on the timeline to help students. It was a lot of fun.

*This is when the teacher had to come out of me, and we had to sit and rest for a minute because the students weren't paying attention.* Wow. I didn't think I had it in me.

After this they had free time. Some students played with puzzles, block, etc.

Two students were playing with a puzzle and one boy said, "This puzzle is janky." Ha

Another student was playing with a Mr. Potato head and he said, "He is a punk." I asked why he was and he said, "because his hat is on backwards."

At the end of the day I had a girls ask me if I liked Michael Jackson.... I said yes, and she said good. I do too. But I DON'T like Thriller. ha. This girl had also asked me if I had a boyfriend and if he was fat earlier in the day... Oh my.

Today was a funny filled day. I definitely learned as a teacher you can constantly be praying without ceasing as the Bible commands us too. During time when students are working, or during lunch, or during recess, etc. you can be lifting the students up in prayer. I challenge you to try praying without ceasing for friends, family, teachers, students, or whatever else is on your heart!

Hamburger Helper for dinner!

My teacher badge!
TODAY IS FRIDAY!! So as you see above my teacher badge that I wear everyday with my outfits. It makes me feel so official. The one below (that is sideways yes..) is what I got to wear today. It was pride day so teachers get to wear a school t-shirt and JEANS!!!

Today was a much better day with my class. I woke up this morning and laid in bed. I started off the day asking God to help me get through to the students. I wanted my light for him to shine while teaching. I needed these students to understand what was taught. I asked a specific prayer for the one little boy who needs to listen. I wanted to see hope!

Well let's say that God answered this prayer!

I walked into the classroom, and began putting down the tape for the students new seating chart on the carpet/rug. The students began entering in the classroom, and there was a different feeling from them. They were all in better moods, as well as I was.

We began the morning with the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem as usual. Half the kids had their left hand over the right side of their chest :)

After all of the morning stuff we began with share time. One little girl got up and told us that she got a new pink gun :) ha. And she promised that it was real. Another girl got up and told us she was decorating her room (maybe pink). And the last one said she got a new bike!

After all the morning stuff the students started writing in their journals. They always right about the neatest thing. One student wrote, "My mom is brown." Another wrote, "I need to lose weight, so I can fit in my clothes." I love getting to read the students writing. They all have neat ideas.

We worked on some other things in class, and all the students were very attentive.

During one activity one boy said his stomach was hurting. He finally looked at Mrs Prince and said, "I need to go poo, poo." She laughed and said my face was priceless....

After recess we went and got the students. One little boy was telling me how he hated school. All he wanted to do was play and he can't do that here. I said do you not want to go to school and be smart. He said that he gets laughed at because he goes to school.

I read at story time today and THEY ALL LISTENED!!!!! All the students were very attentive, and I was not mocked Ha!

While the students were working on an activity one student asked me what I was going to do when I got home. I told him that I was going to figure out what I was doing for dinner. He looked and said oh dinner. Are you going to have hamburger helper? I LOVE hamburger helper. It's the best. You should have hamburger helper!

At the end of the day Mrs. Prince and I were talking and she said that a little boy needed to work on not talking so much. He heard us and said, "I ain't gonna talk anymore." Mrs. Prince corrected him and said, "You aren't going to talk anymore" He said right, "I ain't not gonna talk anymore." Finally after about three times he got it right! He was so funny. About a minute later he was talking again :)

Today was a really good day overall. It had some parts that were a little blah, but over all it ended up being a good day where I learned a lot.

Now it is the weekend! Amy is coming down and treating Kate and me to dinner :)

I will also be preparing Math lesson plans for next week! Oh Boy! Mrs. Prince won't be there Monday and Tuesday so hopefully the students will listen!

Oh what a day...

Well today was a little bit harder...

First I want to say that yes my background is from Christmas time...Oh well. I may get to changing it sometime!

So today started off pretty good. Went in and got the students poetry binders finished up which they LOVED!

They then have a time for students to share. Today no one had signed up so Mrs. Prince wanted me to do an example of share time. I went in front of the class and introduced myself. I told me that I was 22 (They're eyes got really big and they all said WHOA. now I officially feel old) and want to become a teacher. I am learning how to. I am from Bentonville, and when I finish at Christmas time I will hopefully start teaching. The students then could ask 3 questions. I had one boy ask me what grade I wanted to teach. I told them Kindergarten or first grade and all their eyes lit up. Another boy asked what I would do at Christmas time. ha. All he heard from my talk was the world Christmas. The last student asked where I wanted to teach... of course I said Bentonville!

After I talked to the students they started working on several different items so the teacher and I could do different tests on them to see where they are. I listened to students verify letters for me, and then use different words in a sentence. There were several different words from ever to everything. Several students would say I am ______ (happy). I was waiting for a student to come to me and use the word black in the same sentence. It eventually happened at the last student and he proceeds to say I am happy. I am black! After he said it he looked straight at me and smiled. All I could do was smile.

After testing we took the students to PE. I had lunch. During lunch we ate in the cafe with the kindergardeners. While at lunch I had this little boy looking at me constantly. He would look smile then look away. Next thing I know I am eating and here a girl say HE JUST THREW UP! I look to my right and what do I see but the little boy that was just smiling at me looking down next to him at throw up. OH MY GOSH. I forgot that I would have to deal with throw up in school too. He went to the nurse, the principal came over and covered it up (luckily bc I don't know what I would have done if I had to stare at it for much longer), and the janitor came over and cleaned it up.

After we ate I went and picked up the class from PE, and walked them back to the classroom...They were actually quiet for me!! YAY! There was one student who got a toy out of the treasure box (a necklace) He was constantly playing with it that we put it in his tub. Right before lunch he got it out, and I had to take it away from him at lunch. The students go to the cafeteria to eat, and my teacher and I head back to the room to get papers together for some students to finish during recess. We then went and got the students after lunch. I had one little boy who is persistent on not working at all. He argued and argued with me about doing his work. FINALLY towards the end I got him to work! I was so excited. He ended up finished up the rest of his work that he had scribbled on earlier.

The rest of the class came in from recess and it was time for story time. I was in charge of this. I began where the teacher had left off the day before. I went and sat on the students desk who I had finally got him to do his work to hopefully keep their attention and make them listen (the teacher had to do this the day before). This clearly wasn't working when the students kept laughing. I wasn't for sure what they were laughing at so I moved away from the desk to keep an eye on the student. The teacher walked back in from making a copy and immediately took the student out into the hallway. I finished the story.

Later during a math lesson while the students were working on a penny game the teacher came up to me and proceeds to tell me that the boy was mocking me and making faces at the rest of the class..AHHHHHHHHH

Could today have gotten any worse.

The end of the day I was so worn out. From feeling old, throw up, and being mocked... Wow.

Oh well. I came home, worked out, went to walmart for groceries, ate dinner, and now am trying to relax as I make a new seating chart for my students on the carpet.

On a good note.. tomorrow is spirit day which means we get to wear jeans and the perritt school t-shirt! YAY!!!!!!!!

First day of school

Here I am ready to go attack my first day of student teaching. (Outfit picked out by my dad, Randy Cameron, himself!)

Ok.

So it's been almost a 9 months since I posted. Well, I decided to start posting since I'm now Student Teaching.

This could be a fun place to put fun sayings or funny things that happened to me while student teaching. I can then go back and reread and laugh (even if it doesn't seem funny at the time)

So to start off. Man I am TIRED!

I forgot what it was like to go to school ALL DAY. It is so tiring.

So I began my day going to the administration building and going over "official" stuff.

After that we headed to the school. I walked in and was greeted by my first grade class. They kept turning around and waving while their teacher was still teaching.

During the day I mainly observed all day. I would walk around and help students on different tasks. It was a great time to get to know the students and their names (I am HORRIBLE with names).

After a while it finally became lunch time. I got my packed lunch (I packed the night before, so I wouldn't have to wake up as early) We headed to the cafeteria. I sat with the students today. It was funny. I started to unpack my lunch and all the students around started asking, "so what do you have for lunch. Is that it?"

I pulled out my chips and one boy said, "MMM I LOVE chips!" I then pulled out my grapes and a girl said, "AHHH, I LOVE grapes!" haha

While at lunch I had several students say they would LOVE to have a food fight. (This is as they were holding up their pizza in the action of ready to aim and FIRE!) ha.

After lunch we went outside and we were on recess duty. I had one boy ask if I wanted to play basketball. (Does he not realize that I am HORRIBLE at sports) It ended up where he threw the basketball and I watched. Another boy came to coach me on by shooting skills as he said, "Use the backboard."

We went back inside and kept working on math. They worked really hard before we had to go to computer lab. After computer lab it was time for the students to head home. There are around 4 different bells so it is hard to keep track of what student goes on what bell. As we were standing there I couldn't help but laugh at one student who kept have to pull their pants up because they were too big. I was scared one time they were going to come completely down...

Once all the students left my cooperating teacher and I worked on their poetry notebooks. I then was ready to leave. I walked out the door and immediately said to Kate, "wow I could collapse right now."

We headed to wal-mart and came back to the apt and got ready to work out. I knew if I sat down for a little bit I would fall asleep and couldn't do that because then I wouldn't sleep tonight. So we worked out and then got dinner ready. (Which was great by the way! Simple but good)

Now it's time to take a shower, pack lunch, and get ready for tomorrow.

I get to read to the class during story time about a boy who ran away from home to an island!

Ha.

Oh the joys of teaching!

Just remember the thought of always wanting to have a food fight at school.. and just smile!
